I waited to order this until after the official release becuase I had heard that amazon was shipping the dvds in the snap cases that don’t even fit the box they come in(they hang out to far and are not tight enough to sit in the box snugly without falling out). It didn’t really matter because I ended up getting what I didn’t want in the first place. I would advise against buying this from amazon. Go to Wal-Mart or Best Buy where they most likely have the the same items except with the nice cases for the same price. The movies however are great.

If you liked the Maltese Falcon or The Big Sleep then don’t see this movie. The direction and writing are terrible. The first 15 minutes of the movie is done as first person with only Bogarts voice – which is extremely distracting. Once you actually see Bogey it doesn’t really matter. You aren’t invested in the characters and there is no plot. The story goes on for almost 3/4 of the movie before anything worth while caring about happens and when it does it is so poorly written you are more relieved than satisfied because you know that soon the movie will be over. There only a few actual tense moments in the movie, the last 20 minutes, and the final one is so stupid as to be laughable. I felt like I was watching a first year film student film. You know the kind – the director does such obvious camera and plot work that it IS obvious the message they are trying to send and as such you feel dumber for having watched it.

If you are a Bogie/Bacall fan, you have to have this set. All are classics.

I ordered this last-minute as a Christmas present, but with the faster shipping rate, it got here just in time. The movies were safe and present for Christmas presents, and that’s all that matters. So, good job.
