Well the Backyardigans do take you on many great adventures, this dvd falls short. It’s Great To Be A Ghost is the main episode, but I find it to be the worst on the dvd. The Backyardigans are a group of neighbors whose houses make a circle. In the middle there is a huge backyard that they all share. Together they use their imagination and make all kinds of adventures. It is like Rugrats combined with Dora the Explorer, except there is a lot of singing. The three bonus episodes included are Monster Detective, an odd episode but the most enjoyable, Key to the Nile, where they search to open the Nile, and Pirate Treasure, an okay episode where they play pirates.

The Backyardigans singing is in no way enjoyable. The writers try to give it a feel like it is little kids singing. I don’t think a lot of kids care, all they want is to hear good music. The Backyardigans don’t offer that. The theme song and the beginning song in pirate treasure are enjoyable, though.

The adventures are amazing. It is a feast for the eyes and the kids go to all sorts of places. It is also preschooler friendly because the Backyardigans are animals. My favorite is Pablo, a blue penguin. The Backyardigans imagination is unlimited. They can do all sorts of things.

Overall, this dvd is not bad. It is just not as good as some of the other shows out there for young preschoolers. Also, now that parents have gone education crazy, this is in no way educational. It tells you to open up your imagination which is great for 2-3 year olds. The Backyardigans adventures are aimed for 4-5 year olds, because of the understanding they need.

The bottom line is that the Backyardigans is good for entertainment if your child enjoys songs, but if they do not this is wrong for them. The Backyardigans are adventurous little animals, with no educational value at all. This will be able to satisfy most children, but to satisfy everyone, I recomend LazyTown. It teaches kids to get active and it includes songs too, good ones at that.

A gift for our daughter from a good friend. We had never seen these before. Our daughter has watched this probably a good 100 times now…she sings along with it. Some of it doesn’t make any sense…but as long as she likes it that is all that matters.

We love the Backyardigans and had seen the It’s Great To Be A Ghost on television. That video is cute, but the others on the DVD aren’t great – specifically Soccer Monster of which I find no redeeming qualities. We also have the Castaways DVD which we all find much more entertaining and educational and fun.

My son loves the Backyardigans. The Ghost video is his favorite. He watches it over and over.
