This series turned out to be another great find and for any anime fan of fantasy or action this series well be a great collection set for your library. The story focuses on a mysterious man wearing a partial mask who’s found by the granddaughter of the village healer with no memory of who he is the healer give him the name of Hakuoro, Hakuoro is quickly befriended by the villagers, the healer’s granddaughter Eluluu and after gaining her trust Eluluu’s younger sister Aruruu. Than he finds out that the villagers are being basically bullied by the local lord and his son and after one of the lords soldiers mistakenly kills the healer who’s both well loved and respected by the villagers helps lead them to an uprising against the lord, and later the emperor himself since the lord was the younger brother of the emperor and the emperor wanted revenge against the villagers for rising against him. Thus we come to the main story plot of the series Hakuoro becomes the new leader of the country after the emperor is killed and with help of his entourage of friends and loyal allies tries to bring stability and harmony to the new country of Tuskuru(Named an reverence to the village healer). The series has a wide cast of characters throughout the series you’ll grow greatly fond of and cheer for with their victories, and sadly there are scenes that will cause you to shed a few tears as some characters you grow fond of are killed as well as a few other touching scenes. The series will also have some humor in it so it won’t be all dramatic but it is bloody so I’d advise people who have young kids to be cautious, that’s not to say they can’t watch it but if you feel that the scenes are to blood for your kids than just fast forward over them. Also they have some light adult scenes not any nudity or hentai scenes but more of attempted seductions and flirtations between some of the characters. The video is wide-screen sharp and clear as always with these recent anime series and the voice cast for the English and Japanese actors was incredible they played their roles right on the money. Sadly if your a fan who likes the extras like commentaries and the such you won’t get that with this box set it only has the standard textless intro/ending songs and some trailers that’s it. That all said if you like the series Inuyasha, Basilisk, or just like action this incredible series awaits you….

I loved it. I am the President of the Greenville Society for Japanese Animation and Culture, and we are currently watching this one. It is action packed and full of drama. The animation is top notch and the character designs are charming. The story line is full of ups and downs. And for once, I agree with the choice of American voice actors, they fit their roles perfectly.

This story is enthralling! The characters grow and relationships blossom, pulling in viewers who love stories about believable characters(the writers make the character’s quite lovable!).
It is easy to see how this story could have formed from a game, with the main character’s having to survive one assault after another; the plot never stops moving. When the tale starts to swing too violent or to sappy for too long, it starts to move back the other way. So in spots that get too predictably sappy; then you know the plot’s about to twist.
A viewer can enjoy this continual struggle for survival while watching the army battles and the personal duals! The story stays true to war and some of your favorite characters die, but the action rarely stops to even grieve.
But the story goes way beyond a simple battle with it’s surprisingly beautiful and rich depth contained in the main characters. If you like action, or soft touching drama, this anime is it! Oh, and it’s got fox tails, feathered wings and such are here too…

This anime series is first rate. The animation is flawless and maintains a steady pace throughout. The storyline is top notch as well. The series concerns a man who has been found badly injuried and without any memory of his past or how he got to the village he is found near. He is taken in by a family who gives him a name and is considered a brother. There are several wars as he helps the people of the village and other villages obtain their freedom from a tyrannical emperor.
The music soundtrack is also first rate. Even though the opening and ending songs are sung in Japanese, the beat makes you want to tap your feet.
I have many different anime series in my collection and I plan to add this one to my growing list.
I would not recommend this series for children under age 14 due to the extreme violence of the battle action. But adults should enjoy the series due to the constant surprises in each and every part.
