I rememebered the cartoons being better but I guess I made the mistake of buying the DVD and being reminded it is just sad and not that entertaining – ok bits are ok but overall I wouldn’t advise this as a purchase – stay with other cartoons or anime….

Season One proved to be no challenge to the nigh invulnerable Tick. Justice is served. The world is safe. He is… The Tick.

I’m not American, although I’m living in NYC now, and the first time I saw The Tick I was with My son, who came to visit me. He’s 10 and he couldn’t stop laughing while watching one episode that actually isn’t on this DVD That was The Tick Vs The Big Nothing. Imediatlly we started watching all episodes on tv and I bought this DVD for him. His mom told me him and his friends are watching this all the time. I look forward to get next DVD where our first viewed episode was and I wonder why I already have an illegal version (very low quality, though) and the official one takes so long to come out.

Buena Vista has indeed let fall that on August 29, a multi-DVD set of this awesome animated series will hit the street. This is not an offical date, so it could change. Sources have been saying for several months that Disney intends to release The Tick this year, and last month, the date firmed up to August. Sources are now pointing to August 29.
Be sure to yell “SPOON!” when you rush into the store to grab your copy.

Funny how things change in just one day. And not for the better.
I take back what I said. The offical artwork for this release is out. Bad news. It’s not the complete series. It’s not even the 1st season. It’s just a subset of the 1st season. It’s still a 2-disc set, but at fewer than 13 episode, the $34.99 USD SRP is bloated.
I hope all fans everywhere vote thumbs down to this release by withholding their hard earned money in favor of either a complete series or a complete 1st season release.
May 24, 2006:
Apparently, this release is going to feature 12 of the 13 first season episodes. Rumor in the world of TV DVD is that legal issues are blocking the inclusion of one episode. No announcement has been made yet at to which episode, but it’s most likely one that involves a trademark infringement.
Buena Vista could make up for this, and make the set a lot more attractive, if they would go ahead and release a near-complete series set as opposed to a near-complete first season.
Either way, since the street date hasn’t been changed, I’m guessing the legal isn’t one that can be resolved quickly, if ever… short of BV or Disney ponying up and paying what the claimant is asking. Don’t hold your breath.
June 5, 2006:
The missing episode is “The Tick vs. The Mole Men”. Here is Disney’s official statement:
“Due to creative considerations episode 11 (“The Tick vs. The Mole Men”) is not included. However, we hope to include it in future Tick releases.”
I’m not entirely sure what that means. Is this a rights issue, or does Ben Edlund just hate the episode?
