Another Baby Einstein video that was such a disappointment. This video recites poems. The voice is Julie Clark (if you’ve read my other reviews you already know I don’t care for her voice as the narrator. No offense Julie!). They show something, such as an apple, train, cat, grass, leaf, etc. and then recite a poem about it. A lot of the poems don’t make sense and I don’t think they are very good for a baby video. Often the toys they show have nothing to do with the word that the poem is about. Here’s an example of a poem for the word apple:

“It’s the fall. The unfallen apples hold their brightness a little longer, into the blue air hold the dream that could be brighter.”

What??? I guess I am not much for poems, but to me that is just dumb and doesn’t make any sense to me (I’m not even sure where you’d put the punctuation in that poem). I don’t think a baby or toddler will get much out of it either. I have written reviews for all the Baby Einstein videos and others, please read them too.

I just don’t think that entertainment should be so abstract.
There is only one poem from Shakespeare, all of the poems are way over the head of the age group targeted, and it’s really not teaching anything. If you are to choose one video from Baby Einstein, it should be Baby Mozart, and only if you want it for very young infants. Otherwise, it is only good for slowing down a baby’s heart rate and putting them to sleep. Exactly what mothers don’t need in the 21st century. Better to search for edu-tainment series that engage our babies and encourage them to participate with the video and learn something for the time they spend watching TV. I believe that this video is a waist of money and a loss of energy. Ms. Clarks voice is a bit submissive, not empowering. I also find the puppets to be scary, and the casting is not only not diverse, but doesn’t includ any boys. It’s clear that Ms. Clark has put money making and marketing before the best interest of our children and lacks creative and new ideas. Children may watch these videos, and they may enjoy them, but that doesn’t make them worthwhile entertainment.

…to test your child’s response…I made the mistake of buying three titles at once…mainly based upon recommendations I read here…unfortunately, my daughters — ages 2 and 4 — apparently were so bored with each one that within 2 minutes of the start they got up and just left the room…they’re attractive videos but if your child doesn’t want to watch, so what?

i originally bought this video ’cause my kids love the baby Einstein stuff and I thought this would be similar. It wasn’t. I thought the video had some good educational info, but it failed in the graphics department. My 3 year old had a VERY TOUGH time keeping his attention focused on the video. …

might be fun for the younger babes, but my son is 22 months, and he was only mildly interested and or amused in spots, otherwise he was bored and played with toys. he doesn’t watch t.v. except for videos such as sesame street, french and spanish languages and thomas the tank engine. I’d hoped for much classical music, but was disappointed there, too. seemed to have way too much of the cutesy girls (ONLY GIRLS, WHAT BOYS DON’T MATTER?), lots of ambi brand toys rolling across the screen and far too much lame puppet action and too few shots of nature. this is the first and last of this genre i’m buying. aloha!
