It blatantly contradicts continuity established in the television series “A Pup Named Scooby Doo” Plus it’s atrociously written and performed. All involved should be ashamed of themselves…

Is there a rule that says direct-to-DVD movies have to suck? Well, the producers of this film did everything in their power to make me hate this Prequel. First, you don’t, I repeat, you don’t change the LOOK (or RACE) of a major character for no reason. The fact that two of the Mystery Gang look nothing like their 40year old cartoon (and previous live action) counterparts strikes me as stupid and bull-headed and fan-disrespecting producer decisions.

Perhaps I’m being Un-PC, but since when was Velma ASIAN?? Why would they do that? What is the thinking process behind this? (Does she change race in part 2? OH, are we post-race in this Obama world. Race doesn’t matter at all? Oh wait, it does a little bit…Which is it?). Hmm, were these the same people who made The Honeymooners movie starring, cough, Cedric the Entertainer as Ralph Kramden. Before you cry “Racist!”, flip the thought and say some day 40 years from someone makes a Cosby Show live-action movie and all the principles are played by Caucasians (who will be minorities by then). Or Oprahs’ life story starring Merrill Streep (Great actress, bad bad idea). Now who is the racist?

Maybe this is the same reverse-racist thinking that lead them to make FRED have BLACK HAIR instead of BLONDE. Are these people just stupid?? Do these decisions seem like no big deal to you?? If so then you might like this movie. You’ll probably love it. I for one really couldn’t get past this crap. When you mess with ICONIC images you mess with the whole thing. Baby with the bath water. It’s not a race thing, its a character thing – Velma is not and never will be Asian, Fred is a Blode white dude, period. No offense meant to any one (though you probably will take this the wrong way).

The Producers are morons. SEE: The Flintstones movie. Who in their right mind thought ROSIE O’DONNELL would make a lovely BETTY RUBBLE. Killed it for me. SEE: Godzilla (1998). Godzilla isn’t a Giant Iguana who runs from the army and lays eggs. SEE: Almost any video game movie ever made…When you disrespect the source material you disrespect the fans and your dollars go bye-bye.

The only redeeming qualities this movie has are the guy who plays Shaggy and the fact that the CGI Scooby is on model with his cartoon version, even if he doesn’t look exactly perfect.

But bottomline: it was boring….. Sorry Scoob, this one sucked. Luckily I rented it for a buck. Save your’s or use it to buy one of Scoob’s many many cool cartoons.

P.S. I know everyone that worked on this film did their very best. But next time, stop and think before the train gets rolling down the production line. Ask, “Why??”

I enjoyed the theatrical films for their sense of nostalgia mostly. Though, obviously targeting younger audiences almost exclusively, rather than designed to appeal to us (ahum) aging fans that grew up with the cartoons, it was still fun seeing the characters I loved in my youth, come to life in a new way. Watching the first two films with my niece and nephew (6 and 8 yrs old) enhanced the experience even more, as they were screaming and giggling like I probably did when I was younger. This new direct to video sequel was a disappointment for me as an adult. The nominal production values encouraged keeping the remote close and my finger on the fast-forward button (the button where you can still hear what’s being said, but the film is just slightly sped up). But my niece and nephew were just as excited as they were with the feature films and seemed to love this one just as much despite an effort by Warner Bros that seems almost shamefully exploitive of a wonderful franchise.

NOT a scooby doo mystery at all!!! There was a faint mystery in the story line. NO plot! The story jumped around too much for a kids movie. Characters were very annoying and not fun to watch in the slightest!!! F & D crush on each other….kids don’t want to see that! V really isn’t that smart…FLAW. Shag…couldn’t get more annoying and finally Scooby doo is not even the main character in this flick. The title is “Scooby-Doo” and not “The Kids with the Occasional Dog”. My children are Scooby doo EVERYTHING!!!!! They love ALL the Scooby doo chartoons (old and new) and the 2 Hollywood movies too. My boys loved even the old globe trotter, Addams family Scooby doo cartoons. But this one……DO NOT BOTHER!!! My boys were bored and got up to leave a dozen times through this one. Did NOT keep their attention the least bit!!! They were so excited to see the NEW Scooby doo movie and was a HUGE let down!!!!

The fact that I am taking my time to write a review (my first review ever) should let you know just how bad this one is!!!

If there was an option for NO stars……………Guess what??

Can’t get enough of Scoob and the gang. This was a gift for the grandson…he has just about all of the Scooby Doo DVD’s…and this is a new avenue for the gang to go down. The new puppy doesn’t like Scoob and barks at the screen, but he is adopted and not a blood relation…so we understand how this could happen…although it must be rare. Enjoy…the game is afoot with Scoob on the trail…
