Tom and Jerry – Spotlight Collection

Description
The Tom-and-Jerry legacy chases through every nook and cranny of the classic animation pantheon, spanning six decades and several famous directors. Looney Tunes icons Friz Freleng, Tex Avery and Chuck Jones all played their part. But the enduring cat-and-mouse team was the brainchild of William Hanna and Joseph Barbera. Their first short Puss Gets the Boot (in which Tom was called Jasper) was released with little fanfare. Fellow animators did not consider a cat-pursuing-mou… More >>

I bought this DVD for my 3 yr old grandson to watch. Thank goodness I watched it with him! About the 3rd or 4th cartoon shows Jerry tied down, with a line drawn over his tummy, and Tom holding a Huge AX over his shoulder! I immediately stopped the video, and I don’t think my Grandson realized what was happening.

When I put the dvd back in the case – I noticed the picture on the inside flap – and posted it for you to see. It shows another scene of Tom with an AX and a gun, and various steel traps a second ax with red on it.

DON’T buy this for young children! This is not the Tom & Jerry I grew up with. I can’t believe this is not rated for violent content, and the Amazon Review and Product Info do not mention that this cartoon has scary violence.

Now I know that Jerry wouldn’t have gotten hurt – but my Grandson doesn’t need this kind of entertainment.

I’ve heard a lot of noise about editing, but after reading many reviews, it appears that only 3 of the cartoons on the first disc have had a few minor “black face” scenes deleted – and another one where Jerry’s muskateer friend sings Frere Jacques.

Are these the only deleted scenes? That seems pretty minor, I think I can live with that. Of course I would like to have the completely uncensored and unedited versions, but the above omissions seem pretty minor. Please correct me if there were more cartoons and scenes deleted.

Also some have complained about the sound and picture quality. I think they are fine. But I am concerned about the editing and censoring. Warner Brothers should know people are upset about this so hopefully they won’t repeat this next time.

Nice to see T&J getting a decent DVD treatment at last. However, in DVD Region 2 (here in Great Britain) we are up to Volume 5 of what looks like a 6 volume run of all of the T&J shorts. There are no extras but the great bonus is that these are being released in chronological order and (from volume 5) include the non-HB shorts ie. Chuck Jones etc. (this may be a drawback in some people’s eyes but it ensures a complete collection). Each (double sided) disc has around thirty cartoons and all of the shorts seem to be restored and uncut. They are also reasonably priced. These are definatly worth looking for.

the DVD collection really does the T&J series justice. These are great DVD’s that will last for years. The kids LOVE them. This is never on TV like it was for me when I was a kid so I wanted to ensure that my kids got the same experience. These cartoons are classic and the animation is spot-on.

LOVE this … Get this DVD for your collection.

Note; please don’t steal DVD’s from the internet. It’s wrong. Purchase them like the rest of the honest population does.
